I have a 1996 astro awd van the transmission went bad i need to know if a transmission from a 97 will fit mine

was wondering if anyone knew about transmission i have an astro 1996 awd van the transmission went out i got a call and this lady has a transmission from a 1997 2 wheel drive will it bolt up to mine which is1996 awd please help i need my van i have 3 kids and no transportation
