How can changing a petrol filter cause the car to overheat?

It shouldn't unless it improved fuel flow enough to make the car run right and now other problems are coming up. could be a sensor or a gauge.. Even though they've test the thermostat, I'd flush the anti-freeze and change the thermostat in the cooling system..
