Geologist or Environmental Scientist?? Which career path is better overall?

I'm in 3rd year geology in a hard rock school in Canada. Oil and gas industry and mineral exploration industry probably pay more but with the boom and bust cycle, there is little job security. Environment field like hydrogeology pays considerably less but have more long term job security. I joined geology during the boom but now is a bust period. Which path is a better path for long term career advancement?
